The Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes are entering the 2024 football season with ambitions to build on the momentum they gained last year. After finishing the 2023 season with an 8-3 record, including a 4-1 mark in the Gene Bissell Division, the Coyotes are determined to overcome the challenges that prevented them from advancing to the NAIA postseason. Their campaign ended on a disappointing note with an overtime loss to Ottawa, a defeat that still lingers in the minds of the players and coaching staff.

Head coach Matt Myers, in his third season, is focused on addressing the offensive struggles that held the team back last year. With a young team that saw key veterans sidelined and a freshman quarterback at the helm, the Coyotes averaged 21.8 points per game—a number Myers aims to increase significantly this season. The coaching staff has worked hard in the offseason to strengthen the offensive line and enhance the running and passing games, bringing in new talent and refining strategies.

Defensively, the Coyotes were one of the top teams in the NAIA, ranking fourth in points allowed and eighth in yards allowed per game. The team returns several key players on defense, including three starters on the defensive line and a strong group of linebackers led by Ricardo Garcia, who recorded 54 tackles and seven sacks last season.

The 2024 season kicks off on August 31 against Evangel, a formidable opponent, and the Coyotes will need to execute their game plan effectively to achieve their goals. Myers believes that with the right mix of talent, strategy, and health, the team is well-positioned for success.
