President Joe Biden is set to speak at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Monday night, where he’ll endorse Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will also speak, though her timing hasn’t been confirmed. Biden will emphasize the achievements of his administration and the vision that Harris and Walz represent for the future.
Harris is scheduled to formally accept her nomination on Thursday. The convention will also feature speeches from several other prominent Democrats throughout the week.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will open the convention with a speech on Monday, expressing confidence in the city’s preparations. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker will welcome Democrats on Tuesday, highlighting how Chicago’s determination helped it win the bid to host the convention over cities like Atlanta, New York, and Houston.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the first woman to be a major party’s presidential nominee in 2016, is expected to speak on Monday night. If Harris wins in November, she would become the first female President of the United States.
Former President Barack Obama, who served two terms with Biden as his vice president, is scheduled to address the convention on Tuesday. Obama endorsed Harris after Biden exited the race. Former President Bill Clinton is set to speak on Wednesday night, just before Governor Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, delivers his address. The Clintons quickly endorsed Harris following Biden’s exit from the race and expressed their gratitude for Biden’s leadership in a joint statement.
Other notable figures set to speak include Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. While the full list of speakers hasn’t been released, these key figures have been confirmed by the DNC Committee as of Sunday. The convention will run from Monday, August 19 through Thursday, August 22.
